Decoration Tips

Even a small quilt can feel right at home on a larger bed, centered on top of a plain white comforter and accented with coordinating pillows. Providing a place to put a quilt when the bed is in actual use is a good idea; you don't want makeup or anything else to touch the edges in order to keep cleaning to a minimum. What a good excuse to buy that pretty quilt rack you've been wanting!Decorating with quilts in the kitchen, laundry, or bathroom can be an unexpected pleasure. It's easy to turn a quilt top into a colorful shower curtain to mask a sliding shower door. Use a tension rod to hang it.

Another obvious choice for displaying a quilt is on the wall—it is a piece of art, after all. A colorful quilt can also be the perfect stand-in for the headboard of a bed. Hanging options include specially designed quilt racks that attach to the wall, as well as using a piece of flat lath, a yardstick, a dowel, or a café curtain rod slipped through a special hanging sleeve on the back. Some avid collectors have devised interesting storage racks designed to hold many quilts at once.

A quilt can add a much needed bright spot to a dark wall or stairwell or to a room with high walls and ceilings.

Try draping or folding a quilt over the back of an antique chair or sofa, the arm of a wicker rocker, the handle of an antique baby buggy, or on your staircase banister or upstairs railing. These are all natural places to display a favorite.

You can also fold and hang a quilt over the open door of a cupboard or armoire.Another favorite way to display a group of quilts is to fold and layer them on shelves inside an open cupboard, bookcase, or armoire.Display favorite quilts as wall decorations by using wall hangers, custom quilt frames, sewing a pocket sleeve onto the back of the quilt and inserting a hanging rod or use a wall shelf for smaller quilts.
